What separates a leader from a manager? A manager assigns tasks and runs the meetings. A leader shapes vision, champions the user, mentors others, and gives the team a reason to care. The two roles overlap, but they are not the same: a team leader may not hold a managerial title, and a manager without leadership qualities will struggle the moment things get hard.

Design & Product Leadership teaches the second skill set. The course is built for both sides of the product organization: design leads growing into broader roles, product managers stepping up to lead teams, and cross-functional leads responsible for designers, PMs, and engineers at once.

You will start with the foundations of design leadership and product leadership: strategic thinking, empathy, decisiveness, and the communication habits that make people want to follow you. From there, the course moves into the daily reality of leading design and product teams: resolving conflicts before they harden, balancing friendliness with professional boundaries, and measuring your team's success in a way that connects to project outcomes.

Remote leadership gets dedicated attention. Assigning tasks and running video calls is the easy part. Building trust, culture, and momentum in a distributed team is the real challenge, and the course covers the practices that keep remote teams aligned and motivated.

Finally, you will learn how to grow the team itself: recognizing when your team lacks expertise or capacity, hiring strategically, and recruiting in a way that makes a real difference.
